Parrots and wheels

I laughed when I saw this - a cycling friend of ours has a pair of Eclectus parrots, and he's even had an additional parrot wing constructed out the back where he communes with them. They also figure in his will because it's quite possible that they will outlive him:

From an article on Cyclingtips: https://cyclingtips.com/2021/11/parrot-gets-peckish-destroys-wheel/

The male and female Eclectus have such different colouration that they were initially thought to be different species:

Beautiful parrots sure made some ugly wheels. I can see the warranty claim. “ I was just riding along”

Those wheels...

Are many aerodynamic wheels made of Styrofoam? At least, that's what it looks like...

They're Mavic's "SnackMax" wheels.

Looking closely at the picture, the wheel apparently has an alloy rim with a fairing glued to it, presumably made of styrofoam or something similar. I guess you could probably strip all of the fairing off and keep riding it.

Foam

That foam might even be polyolefin (PE or PP) instead of polystyrene. But this reminds me of the old joke about this pet bird with super powerful jaws called the Crunchbird. Its owner could say "Crunchbird XXX" and whatever the owner named, the bird would just destroy it with its powerful bite. Hearing this, his skeptical and sarcastic friend exclaimed "Crunchbird my a$$" The medical bills were significant and the guy could never ride a bicycle again. Ba-dum, ching.
