Awesome retro siting

Parked at the supermarket this am, a Marinoni I’d say early ‘70s or maybe ‘60s. Gipiemme Groupo with Simplex retrofriction levers (best bike part ever IMHO), Italia Anatomico saddle, 5 speed freewheel, big cog 21 or 22, rat trap pedals no straps, Conti 20mm clinchers (Ouch!). Frame had beautiful Maple Leaf cutouts.

I was tempted to wait and see who came for it.

I've used this one many times for out-of-town doctor or banker visits when the weather was cool.
I go a little heavier on my choice of locks, but I don't have to put up with any sort of lock clunk or rattle using the Specialized "rope" lock.
It's only a mid-range bike, so no great loss if it got stolen.

Theft!

Sadly, that Marinoni looks eminently stealable with that lock arrangement. Just pull the loops over the saddle and you could probably take it with the lock intact.

It's gorgeous, but to the rider, it's likely just "grandpa's old 10-speed."

Theft!

Well, the Yarmouth Hannaford is not exactly a high crime area. I use the bike rack (visible at the edge of the pic) and put a cable through a wheel and around the rack, but if for some reason I don’t have a cable with me I just leave the bike and don’t worry about it.

And sure, you could disconnect the wheel and carry off the rest of the bike, but I’m not worried about that in this high vis area.

Looks like the lock goes thru the triangle to me. Just one loop is all that would be needed.
