OT: ESPN has no ads for F1 races

I was wondering if anybody knows how ESPN shows F1 races with no advertising? I always watch the races anf it makes no sense to me. I assume they pay for the rights to show the races. Strange.

Wild isn't it. Mother's Waxes sponsors the race but you hardly ever see them motioned. I can't see Mother's writing a check large enough to cover the check that ESPN wrote to obtain the broadcast rights. ESPN does run ads during the pre-race coverage on Friday and Sunday.

Last year ESPN randomly inserted ads in the first races and much of the time viewers missed out on some major action. The current ad-free coverage must be a loss leader to keep you tuned to the network.

ESPN has had few sporting events to televise so revenues must be down, and they do this. maybe its contractual obligations they can't evade.
