I am saddened for certain. RIP Paul, thanks for helping me enjoy and love something even more for decades!!
To us, it sucked when he [and Phil] was not commentating any event we were watching. Now it is going to suck into perpetuity.

Sorta side note: I honestly can not imagine anyone else steering Phil And these past seasons I have to come to believe he requires steering more and more.

It would not surprise me if Phil retired from announcing after this. He would always feel the vacuum.

I just saw this in an announcement from NBC Sports and I'm utterly bummed. He was a great commentator and seemed like a genuinely nice guy. The Tour simply won't be the same without him and he'll be sorely missed. I agree that Phil will probably be lost without him and I imagine he's really hurting over the loss of his friend and companion for all these years.
Has anyone heard what the cause was? Not to be morbid, but I'm about the same age...

My age as well. I caught bit/pieces googling of deep depressions, and a major weight loss at one point. I had not been aware of his having needing a major weight loss prior to reading this.
Some suggestions related to depression, but the internet probably will include all manor of crap. In that case my hope is not true on that implication. But gone is gone when it come down to it. Better place let's hope..

I saw a tweet from Phil saying he was told by the family it was heart failure.

62 years is too young. I will forever associate his voice with the Tour.

Wow.
That is shocking & sad.
I so enjoyed listening to his commentaries so recently at Vuelta and Worlds.
He was about my age also.

Paul with Laurent? Looks like he ate the canary! Paul that is, not the one licking his lips.
