‘What’s wrong with you — are you blind?’
Who hasn’t thought this at some point whilst cycling or driving?
‘What’s Fooking wrong with you — are you Fooking blind?’
Who hasn’t YELLED this at some point whilst cycling or driving? ;)
Having said that: [and while I read more of Nick's link...
https://road.cc/content/news/252670-mark-renshaw-miss-start-season-after-fracturing-pelvis-when-driver-hit-him
Speaking from hospital, Renshaw said: “I was heading back out on the road for the final two hours of my five hour training ride and as I entered the roundabout the car looked like it was going to stop"
“I assume the driver didn’t see me and I hit the front right of the car and flew over the bonnet, landing heavily on my pelvis..."
Seems they don't see other car sometimes, and peds and cyclists rarely.
_____________
"So, not only do the door pillars of a car represent a physical blind spot, but our eyes tend not to fixate near to it, leading to an even bigger jump, or saccade, past a door pillar. This is called windscreen zoning."
I recall reading about this in another article regard cyclists getting hit from behind.

Good read, thanks Nick.
And something I have always exercised driving, as a being motorcyclist. Got my MC ticket same day I got my car license.
_________
"Drivers
Always slow down as you approach a roundabout or junction, even if only by 20 mph or so, even if the road seems empty. "
_________
I can tell you, intersections are the highest probability of a MC issue.
__________
Motorcyclists and cyclists
Recognise that you are especially at risk

>Something else I started doing in the last 5+ years...
When approaching a stop sing. I no longer look at the flow of what I am entering until after stopping. This got me out of the 'Totally Pausing' instead of 'Actually Stopping' I did occasionally. Especially while kinda in a hurry. A luxury 'not being in one' much anymore I have now.

Nick, Thanks for the article, there is lots of great content. I will read it a couple of more times to digest the contents. There are lots of great driving tips to add to my daily driving.

Mindset
The best mental image to carry when you are road cycling is that you have a flashing light on the top of your helmet that says "10 points" Assume they're after you and you will be a lot safer.
