Mount Washington Hill Climb losing popularity..
with riders? Race date is August 18 and there is still 100+ open spots. Registration open on February 1. I remember when if you didn't register within the first few hours, you were shutout. Reg Fee now $350 may have something to do with it.
Anyone here still doing it?

Nah
I'm not doing it.
But rides like that is usually crowded due to increased visibility. I noticed the field limit is higher than last year. That may explain the remaining openings?
The price is high but most new riders are used to it. They weren't around when club centuries are only $20 and 5BBT was only $35, or D2R2 was only $50... So, while the old timers in us moan about the high prices, new riders are used to the $200 Grand Fondo so won't blink for the $350 entry fee.
On the other hand, I'm amazed it's been running for 40+ years!

Not since '08
Road events are less popular across the board. The Death Ride is still open, it used to be by lottery. Guys like me that like them are getting old. I have some friends that still ride the Rockpile, but they're hard core.

I balked at $350, which seems insane until you read the fine print, so to speak. It's a fundraiser and you can get part or all of your entry fee back if you raise enough in donations. Looked at in that light, it's a different story, since you could actually ride for free.
