Six

Two Rivendell Road standards, one with long reach brakes, fenders, fatter tires, one with a minimalist racy type setup. Rivendell Rambouillet (commuter / tourer / easy ride with my kids bike). Lemond Poprad cyclocross. Mid-80's Bianchi set up as fixed gear. '93 Bridgestone MB-2 with the way-cool biplane crown rigid fork.

I've owned several more modern frames over the years, but something about Grant Peterson's frames work incredibly well for me, so most of them now are his design. Modern parts on all but one though.

I've only got three

Road - '97 Lemond Maillot Juane
MTB - '01 Specialized FSR XC Pro
Urban - '03 Haro MTB (I swapped the mtb crank for a road crank and I use semi-slicks)

I'd have a few more, but I don't have any more space to store them. I guess I could park my van outside and use my half of the garage as my personal bike shop...

Cutting back...

I have two.

One is my tourer/bad-weather commuter/messy stuff bike, which I built from what I believe to be a Univega frame. It has the longest wheelbase I've ever seen, friction/index barcons that can handle any gearing, touring triple in front, racks, fenders, etc. Truly ugly, but functional.

My other bike is a sort of sport/touring. For Christmas, I was given a Kogswell 58cm derailer frame. This has a little longer wheelbase than I'm used to, but it's not at all bad. Built as a road bike with a standard (53/39)double in front and relatively wide-range gearing in back (12-27 cassette). My major condescension to practicality on this thing (other than the basic geometry) is a set of narrow fenders, since I'm running a Brooks saddle on it.

I'd like to have more bikes, but lately I've been thinking that maybe I don't need more than two--one for good roads/good weather, one for less than good conditions--so I've simplified. If I raced, I'd probably have more...

Too many but like them all

Fortunately some of mine are stored in the States with the moving company in Connecticut, my in laws in Mass and sister in Alabama.

1975 Gios Torino
1985 Davidson Challenger
1990 Marinoni
199* 3 Rensho
1992 Pinarello Gavia
1998 Merckx EX

Unfortunately, I've been acquiring more in the UK and I live in a flat.

Went over with and still have-

1999 Vortex

Acquired:

2001 Chas Roberts single speed custom
2001 Corrado custom- totaled in 12-03
2002 Coppi Gavia replaced Corrado- Gavia was £50 EBay bargain
2003 C40
2000 Colnago Tecnos, will swap out Gavia components

Fortunately the flat has 10+' ceilings as I have 3 on one rack and 2 on another.

In good company

My personal collection is a bike for each purpose
1. Merlin RSR, my main ride for all the fun stuff
2. Bianchi, mid-90s, that is an Ebay creation. my "leave it in the car" bike.
3. Cannondale XS800, for commuting, and all around S.U.B (Sport Utility Bike)
4. Miyata, mid 80s, thrift shop bike, trying to make it road worthy

The girls mixte, consumer grade mountain bikes don't count.

Rivendell Quickbeam?

How long have you had the Quickbeam? I was under the impression that they were a Spring '04 release.

Anyway, my collection inlcudes:
Merckx AX-TI
Merckx MX-Leader, Motorola Team colors
Merckx Corsa Extra (commuter/rain bike)
Rivendell Rambouillet (Merckx-like with real fender clearance, Sunday rain bike)

Cindy and I also share a Cannondale tandem which is the best tandem we've had in 15 years of tandem riding.

That is pretty cool. It needs some of these on it IMO

1. Trek 5900
2. Litespeed Saber
3. Surly Cross Check
4. Biachi Track, converted for road use with road fork/brake

The Bianchi is yet unridden. I've rolled around the basement but I've not had a chance to hit the road with it. I've got it in the car today so I can ride at lunch if the weather holds.

I'm still in need of a steel bike and I'd like to have either a Ritchy Break-Away or something with S&S couplers. I suppose they could be one but I'd like a lugged steel frame of some sort. I'm casually looking for an older Merckx frame. I'l find the right one someday.

Quickbeam

I got it last summer. It sorta looks like this.
http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/laverghetta1.htm
It is a "geomerty sample" and was built to make sure that it would work in the real world. I have never really run it as a four speed, except for a brief test ride, although that was Grant's intention. The rear fork ends are long and angled up quite a bit. The theory was that filp flopping the rear wheel would not require brake pad adjustment and that the dropouts would be long enough to accomodate the difference in chain length needed for using two front chain rings. I promptly set it up as a 42x17, and rode a century on it. Very comfortable ride, long wheelbase, relaxed geometry. It would make a great single speed (or fixed if you are brave) cross bike as it has cantis and room for huge rubber. From what I gather from http://www.63xc.com/ they are close to being ready but this is Rivendell time we are are talking about. They will be ready in the fullness of time...

Regards,
Pete

Thanks

I'm afraid that I'll see one at the Seattle Bike expo and be smitten the same way I was when I saw the Rambouillett. Kevin Grady can attest to the Mr Toad-like fit that overcame me when I saw it in the lovely orange flesh. poop-poop!

self selection?

With such a sizable % in the >=5 category, I wonder if there's a bit of self-selection going on. IOW, those with fewer bikes are less inclined to post than those with more. After all, isn't it more fun to boast about your many rides than to say you have just one?

Define "bike"

1. 79 Centurion RS (funky old Suntour-equipped bike)
2. 84 Schwinn World Sport (dedicated trainer bike)
3. 91 Specialized Allez (probably sold)
4. late 70s Nishiki International - (bought on eBay with a fancy new paintjob for $60, my new fixed gear)
5. mid-80s Fuji S-12S - current fixed gear
6. 99 Brew track - anybody need one?
7. 98 Trek Y-22 MTB
8. 2000 Anvil Crosscheck cross bike
9. 2002 Anvil Chisel road bike
10. 2004 Anvil hardtail MTB (pending completion)
11. 95 Merckx MX Leader
12. mid-80's Panasonic 2000 - upright bar single speed
13. ~90 Bianchi Tangent - commute bike
14. 82 Trek 614 - 531 sport touring, great shape
15. 85 Trek 620 Touring - 531 touring bike

I think that's all...though I haven't checked all the boxes in the basement lately. Oh, and Alyson has a sweet Gunnar Rockhound MTB and a Koga-Miyata Forerunner touring bike just built up from a NOS frame.

Just 2

'94 Giordana XL-ECO w/ Chorus 8sp (sweet ride)
'84??Fuji Touring Series IV, bolted to Cateye trainer

Don't have the income or (mostly) spouse that would allow for small fleet. Don't race, so don't have the need, either, I guess. I'll just continue to admire everyone else's nice stuff. An Anvil is the only bike I've really lusted over.

Away from home

Okay, I'm guessing, as I haven't been home for a couple of weeks. Wifey may have disposed of one of two ;-)

1. 1974 Fuji Finest - first real bike I could afford - flexy
bought after riding a Schwinn Varsity for years
2. Circa 1995-6 LiteSpeed Ultimate - Daily rider when I get into shape.
Campy Record 8 speed.
3. Circa 2000 Cannondale Touring Bike - lousy shift system (some kind
of cheap Shimano on it.
4. 2001 Litespeed Blue Ridge touring bike w/ Campy triple & 9 speed.
5. Best bike! - 2002 Anvil Special - Campy 10 speed w/ Chorus & Record
mixed components - didn't want much carbon fibre
on this bike. Don did a superb job on this.

I'm starting to have fun again. Hope that everyone else is, too.
