NYC cyclist path incident looking like terror attack?
So glad I put on the news before I was going for a bike ride....
"The incident happened in the area of Chambers and West Streets in the TriBeCa neighbourhood at 3.15pm."
Suspect in custody at hospital with some of NY finest's bullets in him.
>Later news reports confirming, looks like another lone nut.

A bicycle thoroughfare.
Let's hope this is the end of a trend.

Absolutely terrible news. I went to school across the street and lived nearby the path for many years more - spending a lot of time walking, running, & cycling along that route.

Rode the bike path today.
It’s my commute route. It re-opened this morning.
Not much reminder of the tragedy only a day and half ago. A few bunch of flowers at various spots, which I presume to be where the victims fell.
A large presence of police on bikes all along the way, which is reassuring. For I had a hard time resisting the illogical impulse to look behind me, the direction of Sayfullo Saipov‘s truck would have come from.
A bit more annoying were the news trucks still parked along the section of the path where it happened. People with mikes and cameras stopping bikers for interviews.
A small shrine with photos and more flowers started to grow by the evening commute.

The city announced that they are going to cinder block wall up the path to prevent motor vehicle access. I would guess the actual barriers will look more pleasing than I described.

I drove by the area this morning, and they were already laying down the barriers, they are pretty butt ugly.
But that is the world we live in now...

Let's hope the permanent installation are better looking (and more functional).
I don't quite agree with some of the people's reaction to the barriers. The bike path NEEDED those car/truck stoppers long ago. A few years back, a driver with a high blood alcohol content drove out of Chelsea pier parking, turn onto the bike path and drove on it for something like 10+ blocks! They should have put some barrier there back then. It would have re-directed that truck to some place else!

They hopefully will be installing those 6” thick vertical steel barriers at street crossings.
The current Jersey barrier stuff is hopefully temporary. One layout has barriers sitting diagonal across the path narrowing the lane to about 3 ft on either side. That’s just creating a huge mess with folks trying to squeeze thru.
