New use for old chainrings

The chainrings I use have got smaller over the years, and I decided I was never going to use this TA inner chainring that I've had for decades. I gave it, along with a whole lot of used cassettes and other chainrings, to a friend who makes sculptures, lampshades etc from them. He came around yesterday and gave us this clock made from the TA chainring. The wood is elm, cut with a fretsaw to match the chainring. A six arm ring works much better as a clock than a five arm:

Very cool, Nick. That is nicely done.

Six fixing bolts and no ramps or shaping on the teeth! Definitely an older ring.

I like that idea. Time to rummage in the parts bin.

Pendulum

My chainring clock has a cassette cog as a pendulum. Of course it is actually powered by the battery rather than by gravity, but it looks cool and really distracts my one-year-old granddaughter.
