Hiked to and around a cinder cone today.

Traversing was very uneven terrain that is a basalt garden. I am amazed at Elaine's agility 7 weeks and 3 day post hip surgery. Not to mention the hike in and out of the area was a drop in and climb out to get to the cinder cone. Her pace and gate was like I can not remember her being able to achieve. She seems done. Never though it would be so quick. Thank God none of it was reversed or other broken bones occurred Monday morning T boning the truck that blew the light.

So much for the insurance fraud I advised you to perpetrate. </humor>

Excellent

Glad she's doing so well. Hip replacement is a great procedure.

I don't recall if mentioned, but this particular procedure boasts a minimal scar, like 4-4-1/2".

It is designed for 30 year service expectation. It is called "anterior superior approach total hip arthroplasty" FYI.

20 to go

Just realized that this month is 10 years since my replacement, still solid as a rock despite my peeling 6" of femur away from the prosthesis in January. My replacement was anterolateral approach, FWIW. Had the surgery Tuesday, worked a few hours Friday (though my assistants claim I looked green).

An orthopaedic surgeon (not one who specializes in hips) told me he thought the inventor of the hip replacement should get a Nobel Prize because it has brought so much benefit to so many people. For an active person, it's not an exaggeration to say it gives you your life back.

Soon Elaine will be telling you to speed it up on the front of the tandem.

"Soon Elaine will be telling you to speed it up on the front of the tandem"

Which got sold after 2 seasons non use. She really likes her Madone. We were going to do the outdoor first post hip ride, but hiked instead.

She does not want to get another tandem, so this is a relief on a financial basis. ;) And only my endurance from riding had me in front of her the other day toward the end of the hike. It was nice she was willing and able to be up with me and even in front early in the hike.

So SPDs off for a bit, and she can roll the Madone off the Trainer. ;)
