A Giro d'Italia downhill prize? Are they nuts?

And, after the protests, the RCS organizer still doesn't get it.
I could almost see it if they announced the prize for the first time AFTER the race, but encouraging people to put their life on the line going downhill is just nuts.

What's crazy is that the race director, even after cancelling, was talking as if he would love to revive the idea for a future Giro. The man is demented!
