Lacquered Cotton Bar tape

Never tried cotton tape before. I wanted to try it out plain and lacquered before I attempted to do a 3 color harlequin lacquered attempt. Make sure I like the feel of it.

I managed to get the single color to match the Rust Brooks C17 closer than I expected. It may lighten still, not being totally dry in the pic here. Just clear nitrocellulose lacquer, the stuff I use to finish guitars.

That takes some doing, can't be at all easy to match bar tape to a leather saddle.

I don't like the look of so many bikes I see where a half-hearted attempt is made to match the two, it would be better to leave the bar tape black or white.

Yours is the exception, good job. Hopefully the saddle won't quickly wear in to a different shade, but there is shoe polish for that...

That saddle is a Brooks C17, not a leather Brooks, so there's not much that can be done about any colour change. My C17, which is grey and has seen a fair amount of use, has started to go a bit darker at the two points where my sit bones rest on it, but the rest has started to go a bit lighter than when new.

Nick, show us a pic if you would of the patina your C17 has taken on. I find the C17 pretty invisible under me. I hate to ever claim a saddle is 'comfortable'

Thanks.

God! that lacquer take a bit to gas off. I decided the beat way to help it along was to pass air over the bars at varying speeds. ;)

It did lighten as expected, and is a little brown to the eye, but still matches well. The next coat will get a little red tint in it. ;)
