Personal Trainer certs?
I have been going and using the local Y for a number of years and have often thought it would good to turn my experience and something I enjoy into a way to make a few bucks.
Does anyone have any experience in becoming a personal trainer or personal fitness coaching?
I see them at the Y and know I could do what they do, I already have the knowledge base. I think it would be fun and a way to make a couple of bucks too.
What certifications are valid? Just googling the subject I don't feel will give me the most trustworthy directions because some sites are bogus and after people that just jump on the bandwagon.
I found there is a certification in Florence (near me) in late April. It is a 3 day course (as a start).
I am also thinking of adding a USA Cycling Coach cert to it in the future.
Thoughts.

While I am not a personal trainer, seems like that has never stopped anyone from voicing their opinion on this forum :)
So.. first of all I think it's a great idea.
Also why not ask one of the trainer at the Y what certification they have and/or what they would recommend.
Also I am friendly with one of the trainers at my gym, I'd be happy to ask him if you want me to.

I am a little hesitant to ask the trainers at the Y because I don't want them to feel threatened by business competition. I am sure they all have clientele but don't want someone taking potential business.
I would freelance at the Y and the base gym. I don't use the base gym because I hate the environment and like to get away from the DOD after work.

Ok yeah that makes sense.
Next time I go to the gym (probably in the middle of next week) I'll try and ask the trainer about it.

ACE
I am leaning toward ACE. It appears my Post 9/11 GI bill will pay for it and they have been around for over 30 years. There is testing held in Columbia quite often for them also.

So I finely got to the gym today and spoke to the trainer, his recommendation was the
ASCM, he said that it was the most legit and recognized across the board, and would look good on your resume.

Glad I can help, BTW I realized that I wrote it wrong, meant the ACSM, I'm sure that you already figured that out :).

Were you "so fine" or just "fine"? Sorry. Couldn't resist, so I finally posted this.
