They ain't bikes.

They all pretty much look the same (save for the Alfas). Apart from the Alfa set and the '65 Honda, meh.

A drug dealer here drove a Maserati for while, now the DEA does.

I see 2 Volts here but nothing more exotic than '82 Chevettes. Cars last forever here because we don't deal with salted roads.

I really like the Volts, unfortunately it doesn't really work where I live.

Chevy screwed up not introducing the Volt as a Cadillac. If they had upscaled the car first and trickle downed the drive train to a Chevy model later.

Wrong demographic. Your average Cadillac owner is a retired 75 year old. Not going to go for a hybrid.

Cadillac is working hard to change that image. They're trying to compete with BMW. The new CTS-V has close to 600 hp.

I see lots of young attractive mom's pulling up to the local YMCA in Caddy sport sedans and SUVs. I see few boats in town with old people in them.

I would drive one of the sporty new Caddy but not one of the boats. I have no idea what the three letter names are for them.

A Caddy Volt would sell better than a Chevy which many people equate with POS cars. I drive a Chevy and it is really a crappy SUV and low quality when compared to my wife's Mazda.

Beep beep. Beep beep.

"I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn."

Sorry, for me Cadillac will never have any image other than stodgy. I've seen some nice cars from them, but the image is just too hard-coded at this point for me to change.

The other day, I parked next to a Porsche. I remember looking fondly at the front fender curves. But when I came back to my car, I had a better look. It was a Panamera, which takes a nice Posche design and then sticks a huge American rear end on it. Ugly as sin.

Broke my heart. But that image won't stick with me either--for me, Porsches are the 911 and its ilk.

re: ELR

It's funny. I think it was somewhere in Los Angeles. I passed by an expensive hotel. Out front was parked a very shiny ELR. Maybe it was in black.

My first thought was that surely nobody is stupid enough to buy that overpriced Volt. And then it dawned on me that perhaps GM paid for the ELR to be parked outside the hotel.

Alfas are cool

The 4c is beautiful, and I have a strange attraction for Alfas. Maybe it's from The Graduate, maybe it's because they're from Milan and the badge looks like a Masi, maybe it's genetic - my brother drove only Alfas for years (he had a mechanic who always had parts).

I have no use for a 2 seater, but if they had a nice sedan or small wagon I'd be severely tempted. However I'm probably safe because there is no dealer anywhere near me and likely won't be, probably a good thing.

I know I'm a stodgy old country boy and all that, but doesn't anybody make a car you can see out of any more? Every non-wagon, and even some wagons, I've seen recently has abominable rear vision and huge blind spots. I've rented a few cars in the last few years, and without exception they've been unnerving to drive, compared to my nice little old Focus wagon and my Jeep. At this rate the next generation of cars will have no windows at all, just TV screens.

Oh well, I always kind of liked fancy exotic cars, but when it comes down to it, I've always preferred station wagons.

It may get worse, too. Federal rollover roof crush standards, plus the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests have all the automakers beefing-up their roof pillars.
I'd truly rather be able to see other cars on the road than having cameras, lane change warning devices, auto-braking, etc.

Alan
