It's a joke. I think. I'm pretty sure. I hope.

The "new 27.5" wheel size is a joke, too, a bad one, a stupid marketing ploy. The difference between 26" and the 700C "29er" isn't all that dramatic, and "27.5" is the old 650B, almost midway between. There's no reason for it to exist, especially with the confusing nomenclature, except somebody thought it could help them sell a few more bikes.

27.5 is not a joke.

I've had fellow mt. bikers tell me it's the perfect size, all the turning capabilities of the 26" with the roll-over of a 29".

Sigh.......

I submit some contingency of the riders size as far as 'perfect size goes.

6'1" folks like me and 29ers seem to work well. I of course will be careful not to throw a leg over a 27.5er to be safe. I still ride my Steel StumpJumper 6er. But like the 700C the way it rolls over stuff. But I dislike a plush front end off road anyway...

Thus a 5'3" rider on a 29er VS a 6'2" guy on a 6er etc etc.. So 27.5er would be for... 5' 7-9" riders I say. ;)


Now excuses for a new road bike OTOH... ;) Cause I need more of those obviously...

I don't ride a mtn bike anymore, but one reason I've heard for 650B on Rando bikes is they allow for fat tires without toe overlap (fenders included).

Personally, I have 26", 650B, 700C, they all roll and I never give a thought to the size of the wheel.
