I just picked up an inexpensive used bike for my 4 year old granddaughter. It's in pretty nice shape except for one thing - some light rust on the steel rims. Many years ago I used Noxon metal polish to clean up some rusty rims and it worked pretty well, although I vaguely recall a lot of elbow grease was needed.

Is there anything else you'd recommend?

I got some old fashioned turtle wax metal polish to get into the seat lug and other lug clusters on the chrome Paramount when I got it. Then waxed it up...

I was happy with the elbow grease factor and the results.

naval jelly and elbow grease does wonders.

or if you want chemistry to do the work for you, soak it in a mix of oxalic acid + water.

And a Dremel with a polishing wheel.
