New York's Bike Share Program - effect on commuting
Here is a fascinating graphic display of how the New York City bike share program is being used:

This shows where bikes are docked throughout the system over the course of the first full month of use. The most telling is the last couple of weeks, after people have figured out how to best utilize the system. You can see a clear commuting pattern during weekdays with bikes being used to get to the business corridor during morning rush hour, and the reverse commute in the afternoon. Weekends are less pronounced, with wide recreational use. Interesting is July 4, where you can see the bikes being used to get to the west side for the Macy's fireworks display in the evening.
Over 35,000 individual uses per day now.
