Awful Bicycle

GMC "Denali" "Road Bike"

I had two friends who were given these, and, since I know they ride in the evening, I insisted on getting lights set up for them.

These bikes are, in a word, TERRIBLE. The handlebars are drop-style, but appear to be made in three pieces, and are bolted together near the stem. They're made in three pieces because you have to slide the twist shifter on somehow.

But even worse--these things use single-pivot calipers mated to (Tektro, I think) levers intended for linear-pull brakes. The result is zero modulation. The braking is essentially binary.

I could go on, but I don't think I want to.

get a couple

10 seconds on Google indicates they go for $159 at Target and Walmart.

Andy, I think you are a facilitator (if not an accomplice).

I felt awful, but if these people get hit...I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. Suffice it to say that the lights raised the value of these bikes by an order of magnitude.

Friends don't let friends ride that stuff, just saying.
Unless they are going to meander paved trails and the neighbor hood, no hills [down concerns] and under 10 MPH....

All due respect...

One ad says they "stop on a dime."

You say these were gifts, eh? Maybe that needs more scrutiny.

Gifts from the clueless to the clueless. It's really hard not to execute a full Huffy Toss when you first lay eyes on them, but feelings must be respected. Still and all...

Dime?

These thing will stop on a Pfennig. Of course, the rider may no longer be engaged at that point.

They need a pair of these I say. Because those bike are nearly dangerous enough. Flying bike are the ticket!

The chute/foil is in the backpack I guess.
