Does one of us work for GM, car question

I had to open a case file upstairs after not getting satisfactory information on an issue from the dealer, and subsequent ignoring from the biz manager 8 days after he said he would look into the issue.

Issue: bluetooth for phone worked one day, and subsequent service visits I got stalled on. We need more time with vehicle etc.

So recall on the falling headliner, they had the car all day, they could not BS me off on the blue tooth shit anylonger...

Telling me my Certified Used GM vehicle was previous one of the big car rental agency, and not traded in by someone who got a Tahoe like we where told. Dealer lies and shenanigans, big surprise. Considering the Certified Used program include a few other things like on-star etc for 90 days which also where not activated. Not that we care about that. but we bargained and paid for that?

But they are saying now that the build never included options we specifically bought this trim package/vehicle, and paid for in good faith.

I am wondering if we have a cause of action for fraud and contract non performance [and the triple damages that allows] if you get my drift...

How can resell this vehicle with out the misrepresented options not active without loosing my shirt, or kicking it down the road at the next persons expense/problem if I sell privately.

yadi yada...

Trying not to dive into the issues related to used car dealers, but as to the BlueTooth:

I had an awful time trying to get my wife's iPhone to BT pair with her Subaru Impreza. This is a car still under warranty and the dealer was less then useless, there was literally nobody at the repair facility that any clue. I was dumbfounded at how little they knew and at the attitude that they really didn't care either.

I finally Googled "Subaru Impreza 2011 BlueTooth Pairing" and got a website that had step by step instructions, including info. that the manufacturers instructions are just plain out incorrect. I got it to work and it;'s been fine since.

I paired it and had it working out in the lot just prior to delivery. They took the car to 'prep' it and we drove it off about 30 minutes later. Never worked since. It responds as if it is not in the vehicle. Although all the controls and speaker/mics are there.
They pulled the build sheet and that is when the service guy told me it was a rental, and not included on the build sheet. Then I went to the office...

Bluetooth

Sparky, I sell Chevys. The Bluetooth and other equipment can be deleted when a car is ordered for fleet use. The button are sometimes there but not active. The easiest way to see if bluetooth is installed is press the phone button and say "Bluetooth". If a you get a reply it is installed. The Equinox is easy to pair. Just say Bluetooth and then "pair" is the next command. I am confused on how the blue tooth worked for a short time if it is not there? I hear a story about a salesman telling a customer that his $60k corvette had btooth by mistake.

If you want to activate the free 90 day on star just push the blue button. You can also call xm and get free 90 days or have your dealer do that. Let me know if I can help you in any way.

They are now saying it was deleted because it was a fleet car. Which I sure would not have bought if they told me that going in. It was used as I said. And I configured the BT in the lot before they prepped it. Which made me think a re-set occurred at prep time
But they kept saying they would fix it if I left it. I finally leave it and get the info it was a fleet car I bought.

I am considering contacting a lawyer after seeing what opening the file via the 800 # nets.

Are used fleet vehicles even eligible for the Gm Certified Pre-Owned program I find myself wondering??

Fleet Cars

I am confused on how you got the B'tooth to work before delivery. It is either there or not there. The phone button also works the Onstar phone system if B'tooth is not present. If you can post the last 8 digits of the vin # I can check the vehicle build specs.

Before you get a lawyer involved talk to the owner or general manager as most dealerships are resposive to customer concerns. I do not think the sales person was misleading you abput the onstar but just misinformed on how the car was equipped. He may have been doing a little song and dance about it being a trade for a Tahoe. All Equinoxes have a phone button on the steering wheel but fleet cars the button may work for onstar phone only.

Almost all late model GM cars are ex-fleet cars. Fleet cars are eligible for GM Cert., if they meet the specs. I just purchased a 2011 Malibu ex-fleet car for my use and am very happy with it. Like any other cars the quality of the used fleet car varies.

The service manager showed me the build sheet when explaining to me why he was not going to be able to get it working again. I do not think he believed Elaine and I when we told him we both, and the sales guy configured it just prior to them taking it back to prep it for us.

Dumb question

Sparky it's not clear to me whether you had it working driving around or just in the car lot. I know squat about BT but if it was only working in the car lot is there a possibility that your BT set was communicating with another vehicle rather than with the one you bought? Obviously if it was working driving around then my question is moot.

I paired Elaine's phone with THIS vehicle to answer the question, and called my phone. The navigation in the menu system was functional, then the next day when it did not work I went back into the menu system under phone configuration and it said not available.

Bluetooth Option Code

The code for bluetooth is UPF. The vin # Sparky supplied does not have this code and never had an operating Bluetooth. The option is not a module that can be plugged in. It is different wiring and programing in the body control computer. I can not explain how it once worked. Factory Bluetooth can not be added to a vehicle after it is built. Perhaps your phone was working in a similar vehicle. Please talk higher up at the dealer and keep us posted.

" Please talk higher up at the dealer and keep us posted."

Will do.

I had a thought, maybe they had a shit load of these and brought out a different one in the same color and miles approx, it was used.

I know what I experienced in the vehicle with my wife sitting next to me.

EDIT: the more I think about this, it seems obvious they car they delivered was not the same car we test drove and was represented as the one we where buying. And this all occurred on one visit. This is not the 1st time it has been told to me it is impossible Bl-Tooth ever worked in this vehicle. Which makes sense if it is not on the build sheet a reasonable person can believe.

Question is what do I do about it. Other than my wife and I signing an affidavit that we configured it in the vehicle they said they where selling to us which appears to not have been the one they delivered. And it was 2/25/2012.

In 1985 I bought a new 4x4 K20 Suburban Silverado Boat[truck]. When I went to get it, I was told it had gone on fire when they where prepping it. I even went back into the service bay and the tailgate was all apart and it did smell like fire in it. I thought they sold it to someone else or something...

I wonder if they had another one of the same color if they would have just delivered the other one. It turned out I took a different color one, and was pissed off enough I got $600.00 more off than I had already bargained for. Just thinking out loud. ;)

Amazing bait and switch, now we need to start writing test drive VINs.

Is it too late for a lemon law return? (If it applies)

Bluetooth: All my phones retain previously paired devices. Maybe the phone they can dump your phone to print out and notarize.

My first reaction was you had paired with another vehicle but the phone call closes the argument and the VIN nails it.

"Quality" - Advertisers want us to think "high" when we see the word, and dictionaries will not definitively dispel the notion, but "low" and "suspicious" are more often the case, (humor)

Luck is like that too, good and bad.

Good luck!

No mention it was a fleet/enterprise car, no. But I am wondering if the one [if I am right about the swap at delivery] was not one.

Coffee induced continuation.

The sales guy actually told us it was a one owner traded in on a Traverse with a v6 because he needed more space an thought the 4cyl was too small.

I did not check to see if we are the third owner, so that might actually be true. I suspect not and he was creating the best case scenario. The truth not being the best/first choice... Sales guy is at one of their other dealerships now. Thinking about visiting and getting him on tape discussing he and I configuring the bluetooth. But honestly, I would just trade it in when the times comes and wash my hands of them and stop the aggravation where it stands. Going to see if GM will sanction a very good deal on a 2013 if they feel keeping US buying GM products is important. At a different dealer perhaps... Fuck the mirrors... I eluded to the 'district specialist' that after 20+ more GM cars, 7-8 new or certified used [did a certified used 2001 Bonneville], this experience may have me looking for another brand

We originally went in for a new one, but Elaine and I both disliked the way they changed the side mirrors for 2012. The sales guy said we have a used 2011 before the mirror change, and we test drove the used 2011. Looked at all the GM Certified Used perks that came with, got same interest rate as new, liked the mirrors, etc etc. Price a bit less of course, seemed like it made sense. Still does except for this bullshit. reason enough for me to be a total prick in the future when buying a car, will give these guys the credit for it.

GM called back, and it has a person assigned an is an open case. I explained that after 15 GM cars I might be done, and if they like their dealers making customers feel like not going back to the dealer, it is working with us. I actually counted in my mind after I hung up, and it is 20+ over near 40 years. I called back and left a VM saying the 15 number I said was way low. ;)

BTW, case in point. I am not going back to work with the folks where I pinched the nerve in my leg. Sale meetings where they suggested, but did not come out and say thing directly... Probably like the ones they have at the dealership, makes it clear to me prevarication in sales is the norm and not for me. Practicing leading scripts etc. Jedi mind tricks etc ;)

Even though I did pretty well for the short time I was doing inspections/estimates between time off at home in pain on meds. Just lucky I guess, if you consider actually knowing what you are talking about luck. 90% of the sales guys had little or no construction experience.. A disappointment for me across the board I have to say. Yadi...

Hmmm

This may be a real, actual bait & switch case. Worst possible construction for the dealer: They have a bunch of fleet vehicles out back. They also have an almost-but-not-quite the same non-fleet that's used as a "demonstrator." You drive the demo, you like, you buy, but you get one of the N fleet cars...

pairing

If you configured the bluetooth, on your phone there should still be the pairing.

For your own sanity, check to see if that pairing still exists. Every bluetooth device has a unique id. Maybe there is some way to trace that id back to a GM car...

I have no intention of proving shit. The bluetooth was on our list to begin with. We would not have looked at a car without. If they want ever what us to buy a GM product again, they need to show us why we should.

Bottom line, told us the car we test drove had it, we saw it work, there is no way the car we got was that car it seems clear.

I did just dig out my old phone to look in the BT paired DB. Hope it works with it not being active anymore.

Tom, what would it show up as in my paired list on the phone? does show precious paired devices even though the SIM is not active anymore..

EDIT
Never mind, I wife reminded me that phone was a replacement. I dropped the one I had paired, cracked the screen and got a new one under the insurance in the summer. That would have been cool actually....

Basic question

I guess the answer is probably "no," but did you get a spec sheet/window sticker type thing with all the options/ features? I've never bought a used car from a dealer so I dunno, but to me it would seem that with a certified car you might, and since I'm sure it wasn't cheap I would find it a bit curious if you didn't. If you got one and it included Bluetooth, obviously it would be easy to hang them out to dry. Even if you got one and it didn't mention Bluetooth, I'm not being critical, if I got one I probably wouldn't have read it. And if I didn't get one I probably wouldn't have given it a thought.

No sticker with the car. After pairing my phone in the lot of the used 2011 Equinox, then taking delivery of said vehicle [so I thought].. I did not find out it did not work until I got Elaine a Smart phone to pair. Which is why I pared my phone which was a s,art phone to see it work. I had no reason to use my phone in it after we took delivery, she drives it. When I got her a smart phone, was unable to pair it, and seems likely we know why now. I am convinced...
