'tis the Season
to put on the studded Hakkas. Black ice abundant today, even though it was mostly above freezing. So I just put the industrial strength Hakkas on my commuting bike. For riding poorly lit, poorly plowed rural roads at night, I'll take the studs, thanks. And Rick's fall and my fall last year have me thinking that going down on ice in a turn puts you right down on your side, imperiling clavicle, ribs, lung and hip.
I'm getting more adept at the wheel changes on this bike, which has a Rohloff hub, Schmidt generator and hydraulic disks. Today I did the change without missing any steps AND without looking at the manual! (the Rohloff manual is a paperback book).
Now for dinner of turkey breast (went to friends' for Thanksgiving, so the dogs and I have no leftovers). My Christmas present to myself is getting my Gunnar Crosshairs painted (it needs it badly and is a noble bike which deserves it).
Nothing like studded tires to get me in the Holiday spirit.
