Wow!!! It will be interesting to see how well the implementation can be made to work. Not sure I would want to buy the first generation product as it will likely require significant modifications or bug fixes.

The system can reportedly "learn", but it might be challenge to handle day-to-day variations in a rider's style and/or physical condition. For example, if you are feeling rested and breathing freely, you might select a specific gear every time to charge up a hill on your weekly group hammer ride. However, if your leg muscles are tired that day, you might desire to select a gear or two easier to spin more, and conversely, if say the pollen count is high and you're not breathing well and HR is high, you might choose a harder gear to muscle it a little more.

Interesting. Thanks for the link, Dan.

This sure blows my impression RH as an analog man in a digital world..

Then this is the next step of course...

>Rene Herse is working on a dropper seatpost that uses GPS data to automatically lower the saddle when the rider approaches a steep downhill. “Once the rider is freed from operating shift levers, there’s no reason why they should manually control their dropper post,” explained Jan Heine, head of R&D at Rene Herse Cycles.

I don't get the racing points, like UCI would ever be on board. But I recall seeing that said about road race and disc brakes...

I'd get on the BETA test line/list. ;)

And the projected release date for this new technology is April 1, 2024. I knew it was an April 1 jig from just reading the title.

And…

“The Nivex automatic transmission is compatible with the quintuple cranks Rene Herse Cycles introduced exactly five years ago.”

I got the email very early in the morning and it took me awhile to note the date relationship……
