Bob Roll rides these stages each day...

Including Alpes d'Huez etc.

Not entire stages of course, he has to go to work. ;)

But @ his age. [7/7/1960]

I wondered if today it would get mentioned if he in fact climbed it. Yep, 1-1/2s hours worth. Good way to start the day. At least he gets it in before the heat, before going to work... #Green_Envy

Even old pros are pretty impressive riders.

Did anyone catch the USA coverage where Phil Liggett commented on an old race photo from '86 depicting Bob Roll hanging onto the back of a group that included Bernard Hinault on a climb?

I thought it was odd that Bob Roll was hanging with Bernard Hinault on a Mtn climb.

I had just started to follow bike racing with the rise of Greg LeMond in 1986 and I wasn't overly familiar with Bobke then, but I would never have guessed that Bob was on the team as anything other than a big domestic to pull on the flats. Never would I have guessed he could climb.

Does anyone remember what specialty type of rider Bob actually was?

Bobke

I recall Bobke as a super domestique who was an excellent all around rider. Not a pure climber, but I believe he did plenty of good climbing.

Thanks for the input, Dan.
From looking at Bob's current physique, I would have guessed "Rolleur".

Well

What would you think of Eddy Merckx based on his current physique….:)

I do think Bobke was considered an elite domestique, probably as much because of attitude as ability. Kind of a Jens Voigt predecessor.
