He's no slouch, but there's no comparison with Froome.

Most of TJ's wins seem to be ITTs or TTTs and the victories he's had at the ToC and US Pro Challenged largely hinged on his TT ability. He's a good climber, but not good enough to win a Grand Tour. 2014 was his best year. Since then, he's picked up some stage wins, but no major victories.
I would say that he either needs to reinvent himself as a "stage hunter" or one-day race specialist, or resign himself to being a domestique in Grand Tours.

Getting back to the current race, today's finish was rather heartwarming and the victory well-deserved.

Man that was close. The big G went to early, but clearly the little C has some serious speed, it's actually surprising that it took him this long to win one.

"Seriously your comparing TJ. to Froome?"
On the topic of staying on the bike crashing, which was I thought the context of the point... If you think I was comparing rider palmares, not sure how that context was applied.

I'd say the slightly downhill finish suited his very very low sprinting style, as the speeds would have been higher. A reverse of stage 7 and equally as close - about a wheel rim in it.

Imagine a TT stage that was actually exciting! Whoda thunkit?
There was some good news and some sad news, and it was definitely worth watching.

It was another kick-ass stage today, that was very revealing. This race just keeps getting more interesting and I'm enjoying it much more than other recent Tours.

It would be great for the guy in yellow this AM to finish the race with it. The comparison with the French champion who bulldogged challengers twice this century is close, but this one today might have the means. He wasn't given a tactical leg-up. He earned it and looks like he's at least equally inspired.

My preference is for the other French Guy, if not for the time loss in the cross winds he would be 10 seconds off yellow now.
In any case for sure this has been the best tour since 2011 for sure, before the Skineos suffocation.

"Skineos suffocation"
We did not seem to mind the Postal one, but then we learned how that happens.
I can't help feel seeing a repeat with Skineos, juts PEDs dejour.
Kinda rooting for Thomas again, Froomes outs are his ins. But if a Frenchman is top podium position in Paris, I am definately OK with it. Does not happen often enuff? ;)

My comment was not really directed towards drugs, just you gotta admit that those tours were boring as h--l.

I guess how that is how it relates in my minds eye. I get more cynical as I get older I am afraid, ;)

Postal created the template and skineos sort of perfected it. Still, Postal did a few things that S- couldn't, probably because of talent, personality and circumstance.

Check out Marc Madiot (directeur sportif of Groupama–FDJ) providing encouragement at the top of the Tourmalet:
