More house woes! (Wet carpet)

Today must be the day where stars got out of alignment...

One of my water shutoff valve started leaking. It quickly overflows the drip pan and went under the carpet. That's when I discovered the leak...

The fix was quick and simple. The nut over the valve was loose. I tightened it and the leak stopped.

But enough water got under the carpet. It's still wet.

When I used to lived in apartments, water from above leaked into my unit. The super pulled the carpet up and overnight, it air-dried.

It that the best way to get the carpet dry?

Else just put dehumidifier in room for 10 days or so after wet vacuuming as much moisture as you can. Or rent carpet cleaner first to clean and extract wetness, then dehumidifier for a while.

Wet/dry

If the carpet is "dripping" wet, then first go over it with a wet/dry vacuum to pull up the free water, then rent a big dehumidifier/blower to finish the job.

+1

That's how the pros do it. I've had to deal with that problem a couple of times.
