post-crash helmet assessment

my lid from the crash. very slight smushing of the tips of the fins along the upper-back-left corner. those (arguably ridiculous looking) fins are purely aesthetic flourishes, many new designs have moved away from that style.

minor impact, really. i honestly believe this lid is totally fine to continue using. i have a replacement inbound, but i may just use this for MTB duty.

You'll get all kind of grief from other riders!

At least I did. Not that mine shown any damage on the outside. But everyone asked "Did you replace the helmet?"!

More over, the damage wasn't visible until a couple of rides later. I thought my head never touch the ground (nothing visible on the outside). But in fact, the foam cracked. After a couple use, it became apparent.

Not that I'm much of a helmet believer. But if I have to wear one to join club rides, it might as well be an intact one.

yep

got the replacement today. it's the current/updated design, now called the S3.
- the size-adjustment mech is alot better, with a little +/- ratcheting dial setup in back.
- the straps are crap now -- really thin nylon.
- there's no longer an adjustment for the fore-aft location where the yokes go beneath your ears -- it's fixed in place!

Judging from the photos, I think it is a rather crappy TIG welding job or in other words a S@&$-WORKS job.. Consider a filet weld model next time. Seriously, it is good to know the only thing that cracked was the helmet and not the noggin. Heal fast.
