Fixie curb hop + Giro peloton = guess what
About 12 Km from the line a guy very deliberately slipped under the rope and skipped the curb into the peloton. One account said he was riding a beach cruiser, another said a fixie. To duck the rope and jump the curb like that he has decent handling skills (and bike) along with too much confidence in them, bad timing and terrible judgement.
This video link starts right when he slips under the rope, 11 or 12 seconds in.

I hope he ended up in jail...
...or at least in the hospital. What a complete A-hole! Someone needs to beat some sense into him.

Did he at least have 15 guys fall on him? I could not see much in that may-lay..
He may well be responsible for 10s of $ks worth of damage and some personal injury. Is there any laws about negligent battery or the like I wonder...

I don't know much about Italian civil law, but here in America there'd certainly be grounds for a civil suit (good old negligence), and I suspect there are multiple criminal statutes that could be invoked. I bet the guy is gonna be in some serious trouble.

That's pretty messed up
Hmm, this might be a criminal conspiracy that will need to be investigated. It looks like that is Roman Kreuziger's team at the front of the video, about 15 seconds in. Here's a picture of the possible co-conspirators (Exhibit A):
If so, it reminds me of another deplorably crazy all-time sports event when the Republic of Wadiya's Admiral General Aladeen literally shot the competition in another final sprint.
