I drove a 504 for a bit over a year. A bit under powered, but with a manual, it was fun and very comfortable. Until the Lab dug a hole in the drivers seat....

Lab?

I've always wanted a Labrador I could name "Meth."

The safety crash tests dictate that cars are heavier, also less efficient in terms of inside volume as a function of exterior size, and have squinty windows from raised sills.
I remember my 1980 Rabbit, the opposite of all that, weight under 1900lbs iir, and would haul bikes in the hatchback.

The difference between the current and previous versions of the Scion XB is a textbook example of a car being "modernized" with greatly increased heft since apparently having an additional layer of armor laid on. Looks more like a Brinks truck now.

What I really dislike about the newer vehicles is how they totally obstruct the vision of a driver behind them. They've even darkened the rear glass, which challenges any road's traffic density limits as drivers then need more room to maintain safe visibility ahead.
