Cat brought him to the patio. I have been up every 3-4 hours for 5 days now feeding him.
and a video that won't embed.

I would have feed him... To the cat. ;)
Let's hope the cat leaves him alone one he is strong enough to go about his own business.
Good luck with him/her...
Not many Squirrels in these parts, especially right around my house in 40 year old sub-div. Too many birds of prey maybe? There is one spot on bike which I have encountered them to the point of hazard on the bike.
There is a bike path that runs behind a high school near here. Elaine likes it, only a 7 mile loop, but you repeat as desired. One end is a loop at a river and is a nice quiet place to get off and enjoy the view/quiet/air etc.
Back to the hazard area, it is at the opposite end from the river. We park in the school lot in fact to ride this bike path.
I have seen a dozen or more at one time running from the grass across the bike path to the briar that leads down to some RR tracks and fields on past the tracks. Early in the year it is non stop. Yesterday we did that path and saw zero. I wondered where they got to and thought of the hawks and falcons I see everywhere out here 20 miles from PDX.

I guess you have never heard of flying squirrel. NO ONE can be crass about these little guys.
This little guy may be with use for a long time. I have raised about a dozen squirrels of various types in the last 10 years. Flying squirrels are rarely seen because they are nocturnal.

Oh, I am crass now. Well again maybe... still..
If that cat wanted to eat him, he would have I guess. But only wanted to show you he/she was on the job, lucky for your adopted critter.
I have heard of flying squirrels. Only recall seeing them in TN and KY in my travels. But I wouldn't know one from a snowy egret. When that small anyway. I mean from a grey, red, or other color one really.

The gray squirrels around here I have little use for (always chewing their way into the attic). But flying squirrels are cool. Kind of mystical, I think. The only time I"ve seen one in the wild was when camping on the shore of Lake Superior. Swooping through the dusk it was kind of a spooky presence.

Never seen one in the wild. Would be kind of cool.
Erik, how do you keep the cat from getting at it? Pretty soon, it would want to "fly", and the cat will have a field day!

Aforementioned cat is an outside only creature.
I pretty much stay with it all the time. I close it's cage up in an unused room. When it gets larger we have a large cage for it much like a parrot cage only with smaller holes. We keep it for this very reason.

Flying squirrel
Last time I saw one was when I was an undergrad at UMass Amherst (sin city) was in the lounge of our suite on the 6th floor one evening
heard a bump on the windowpane and there was a flying squirrel on the window ledge Our suite was in the back the squirrel must of leaped from the one of the trees as our dorm backed to some woods:

So, you have Rocket J.
Now all you need is a matching moose.

I second Rocket J for his name... ;)
Did you get/have a hamster water bottle/spout for him to drink?
"Hey Rock, wanna see pull a rabbit outta my hat?"
"Wrong hat"

Of course his name is Rocky. After Rocket J. Squirrel.
There was no question about that. He is in his cage under my desk every day until I wean him. My wife did keep him at home yesterday because she had a day off.
