Well that was a suRprise I did not see coming.

{LONG} & RANT ON.

My neighbor seems off enough that I don't even talk with her. Friendly conversations early on usually included how I should make sure to keep my yard locked so no one can get over to her yard. And how she is getting stalked and men have climbed over her fence etc. So I just stay clear and don't really engage her in conversation.

Sheriff knocks at my door a little while ago responding to a report I was beating my whippet in the back yard.

I brought him back to see the hound, water and food visible. He has both inside and outside. Let him do and ask what he needed to do and then when it was my turn expressed my displeasure with the false report.

Being no one lives in the vacant house on one side, and there is a 6' fence and no view of the back yard frmm the front... Briar then a multi hundred acre field behind...

Guessing it was the nut on the other side. Will know when I get an incident report. Public info and all that. If it was her and she specifically stated I was hitting the dog, it is a lie that she needs to be dealt with by the court if at all possible. But that is what the Sheriff said was reported.

Sheriff seems to indicate there was no recourse for a 'false' report. After a convo with the wife on the phone, we are sure going to push that issue though the appropriate channels. If ignoring her did not work, perhaps some court time will help her out.

Bad part is that he, Tiger is 12 now, and always very skinny. So he although healthy, he is one shinny looking pup.

Was probably pretty apparent when he came running up to me and the cop all happy to see us it was a bullshit call.

Thank you for the clarifying with the second to last sentence.

I assume a whippets a dog ?, reads pretty funny otherwise and I was thinking the neighbor had reason to call the cops, LOL.

Greyhound, and had a reason to say she saw me beating the dog?? So if the dog is thin and she suspects I am starving it. Reporting she saw me beating the dog to what end? To get the cops here faster or at all with urgency?

Unless you overfeed a greyhound massively, they have little body fat. A fat hound is a doomed hound.
Even my 98 lb hound did not look fat, like her old gal. And mine, unlike her dog that is so fat it can hardly walk or even get up from the lying position, is thin looking. ;O

Even funnier, she put an illegal privacy fence up on the side of her front porch. But I guess it is OK for her to look between/though the thick cedar tree hedge 15' high into my yard to see my dog.

Getting the ball rolling. She may have dialed 911, in which case she is in for a nice fine. And I intend to make sure it happen best I can nag them.

RANT on Standby....

Greyhounds

A Whippet looks just like a Greyhound but smaller. An Italian Greyhound looks just like both but smaller still.

A Greyhound is a lean running machine and some people think a healthy Greyhound looks emaciated.

Googled Healthy Greyhound pics.

This is not the skinniest hound picture by far. They are crazy lean when they first come from the track to be fostered for adoption. The hips show more when they get over 10 as they run less and less and less. Even a few years out from retirement, they loose that upper leg muscle mass from not hauling daily.

Still does not excuse her claiming the dog was being beaten. He is so old and sweet these days I can't imagine anything he might do to even get in trouble.
If there is ever an accident on the house, it is our fault, not his. And that happens almost never. Once since we been here as of 12/2011. Elaine thought I had let him out when I crashed on Friday early after a huge ride. But he still does not like the subsequent bath too much. ;)

Here is one in Ireland. Note, old hounds loose the muscle mass. I think this one looks to skinny myself.

My old boy eats same as he has daily for over 5 years, the muscle mass is just not there like when he was 5-6. 40 lb bag goes pretty fast I can tell you. Tonight he got chicken livers and necks and back with a bunch of fat and skin with his food. Still a skinny little doe/deer looking giraffe geek. ;)

The pic of the the duo is 3/2007. The other I just took in the TV room here.

Mostly noticeable is leg mass diff. He is not that skinny really, standing he looks a lot thinner. Dark pic, but you can see 8 ribs, and only barely the 9th.
That ain't emaciated in these hounds...

Some might say that is what a retired GH should look like.. So he is quite porkier than when we got him, minus the speed skater legs.

Benelli, the black beast passed soon after we got here, cancer riddled. Just before we got the house 12/2011.

For what it's worth, I've never seen a greyhound that wasn't skinny. I've seen many even outside of the Ft Meyers, FL race track area.

Crimes Considered as Class D Felonies
(1) Filing a false claim that a crime as been committed. This includes calling 911 as a practical joke and falsely accusing someone of a crime.

Does calling 911 falsely accusing someone of a crime and not joking about it still a Felony I wonder?

And again, what has the dog being skinny have to do with calling 911 with that false claim I was beating the dog.

I hope my quest makes some legals trouble for her, because I am going to waste some time on it one way or the other, all by legal means.

I've noticed that cops are pretty good at recognizing delusional persons that call in reports.
Of course they have to give people every benefit of the doubt for the first call, but over time they settle into managing these persons, the better to prevent criminal charges rather than having charges forwarded to the busy DA's office, courts and over-crowded lockups.

No shortage of similarly-afflicted persons around here, since there is rather nice subsidized housing for them nearby. I myself can recognize the shortage of cohesive logic early in a conversation with such persons, many of whom are either on meds for their psych issues, or are on meds for other conditions which may cause delusional conditions or irrational excitability as side-effects.

My only advice would be to not be angry with the woman who made the report, and to thank the responding officer for any/all help keeping you informed.

So 'dddd' [John, right? excuse my memory], you suggest I just keep ignoring her then?

I have confirmed it was a 911 call, and awaiting the transcript.

I was planning to approach, 1st the Sheriff Dept. and ask if she was issued a ticket, and push the issue a little. Then maybe call or visit the DA.

My thinking is she needs to be sent a signal that I consider this harassment and further will be dept with legally.

I also considered a certified letter that can be used later in Court if in fact harassment trends further.

OR, do does anyone think the continued previous ignore approach is best ?

Thanks for input.

EDIT, At last... some levity.

Got a knock on the door earlier. Two young gals fresh from Provo wanting to assist me getting into the kingdom. I explained I did not welcome solicitation and/or cold calls to my door uninvited, and nicely told them I would not be interested in having a conversation about it.

So they asked if I knew anybody which I thought could benefit from said knowledge that could use their guidance getting prepared for getting to the kingdom.

In a nano second, I pointed to the house next door and said, "but don't tell her I sent you". My wife almost wet herself. I have to admit it was the best I felt about thinking of the PITA since Friday. ;)

That was pretty good.

I suspect that most people who would make these kinds of imaginary or exaggerated calls are perhaps lonely enough to call the only "friends" that they may have (the police) for some kind of stimulus/entertainment value.
She might have really appreciated the visit from the Kingdom members, even knowing that they will be back!
Sounds like a win/win situation possibly.

As far as these dog's muscle mass, I can't think of anything that would conveniently build it up other than perhaps running/hiking in very hilly terrain.

Kind of interesting that the situation presented itself when it did when I think about it. If she identified and gained solace from such a visit, I am happy for the situational opportunity having presented itself.
