Very good initial review on dcrainmaker's site.

749 for dual side, 399 for one...self install, maybe usable on carbon arms ...

The idea of sticking it on an existing crank is great. I'd love to do it on my tandem. Hell, do all 4 crankarms and see whether she is really pedaling :)

I can see how this work with metal as the forces and deflection are on a smooth, uniform gradient throughout the material but carbon is a little more complex. I wonder about the accuracy with a complicated force matrix like that.

Inside a hollow spindle make a lot of sense considering the ID of a 30mm BB spindle. I gathered 'spindles of SRAM or FSA' and not Shimano meant 24mm not supported. My impression anyway. But BB86 will probably be totally replaced with *.30 on the levels of bike folks might also be interested in power data??

Liking seeing this though. Wondering what Powertap will do. Be out of the biz if these work well and they do not get on the bandwagon of this type format of interface.

both measure the twist of the BB spindle, but ergomo is not internal to the BB spindle.

I have to say I like the internal mounted spindle concept better than the arm mounted. Somehow a 400.00 item falling off my bike comes to mind with th am mounted device.

Arm mounted is better from the point of view of access to the battery compartment. If you regularly have to replace that coin cell battery, I'd imagine disassembling the cranks and pulling the BB gets old fast...

...and you won't need batteries, just a supercap or two. Some magnets, a coil, some other small parts. All the juice you need. (I'm actually kind of astonished that this isn't how automatic faucets & c. in bathrooms work, only with a tiny waterwheel.)

The amount of power needed for these devices is amazingly small; I'm wearing a continuous glucose monitor (CGM). The transmitter sends a fairly detailed packet of data every five minutes, and runs for six months off a very small battery. That's a lot of transmissions, with about a 20' range.

BTW, I assume this whole thing is linked up via Bluetooth or something similar (it may have said in the article, I didn't read it carefully) because otherwise, that's going to be one messy set of cables to deal with!

I really like Brim Brothers solution, other than its Speedplay specific and somewhat costly. Having it in the shoe means it works on all of your bikes.

Exciting times for the PM market, but like anything new, you can wait and wait and wait or go out and buy something that is available now.
Had my Stages PM since last Christmas and been very happy with it so far. Definitely a great tool for pacing on climbs and not going too hard too early
