Throws like a girl

Anyone following the girl from Philly who's ripping up the Little League World Series? Most interesting sports story I've seen in a long time.

Kids at this level are extremely good. Only girl on her team, first game she throws a 2 hit shutout, dealing 70 mph heat. I watched part of the second game, where she didn't pitch. She starts at 3d, when the shortstop is hurt she moves to short. First time up she gets a hit and drives in a run. OK, it was a bloop, but she was against a very good pitcher.

I've been a fan of women's sports for years, but having a girl pitching and playing third and short on an elite all star team is a real eye opener. She is skinny and has a beautiful, fluid motion. She would seem to have a huge upside. Interesting to see what happens when she gets older. She plays hoop too.

What a great example

Following up on the LL World Series, the New England team was eliminated but what a wonderful talk given by their coach:

Then there is this on NPR on the Chicago team:

I saw a little bit of a game against Canada in which Mo'ne Davis was pitching. Her pitching motion looked incredibly fluid and powerful. She's clearly an exceptional athlete.

And more

I read this morning where one of her coaches said she was better at basketball. Apparently at 11 or so she was recruited to play point guard on a team of 14 year old boys. I'll be watching her pitch tonight.

Mo'ne Davis to UConn?

Apparently she's using the publicity to make a pitch (pun intended) to Geno.
