Anyone know what happened to Nate Morgenstern?
On his fb page, there's the cryptic:
quote:
Hello Friends of Nate,
I went to see him today in Valley Hospital. He's doing well and awaiting his 2 remaining surgeries (Mon and Tues). Being that he was in ICU, I didn't really know what to expect. When I got there, he was sitting in the chair by the side of the bed, reading. He looked good and is just pretty much counting the hours until his surgery. I spent about 1 1/2 hours, so he's got a lot of energy although he's in some discomfort. He's in very good spirits and I have a feeling he'll be traveling his way on recovery road very soon.
Anyone here know what happened to Nate?

update
An update. Someone posted on fb:
quote:
Sandiway, to summarize, he had neck surgery early last week to relieve his spinal cord from a narrowing cervical column. He also has another structural issue that has been causing circulation issues in his right arm. The surgery on Mon and Tues are to address that issue.

To many million miles with low bars and vertebral subluxation from head position on the bike?
Nate has always been the person I know that does the MOST miles/time on the bike. When I was riding with him, he was popping 11k usually... I was 5-8k then for those few years. Enjoyed many a ride and the banter with him for a season or 2-3...
Especially the rides when he was 1-2 days off a hard fast 100+ and I was already recovered from whatever I had done previously. ;) The few days I could be as fast or faster. [very few] ;)

I don't doubt that-I've had the issue, and many others I know as well...

C5/C6 discectomy here back in '05....doc says it is likely from the s-bend caused by too many miles of riding too many years.
No more aero riding for me...all those years of "every ride is a race" took their toll....but I would do it all over again :-)

Did my first "real ride" of the sesaon yersterday and my neck is sore...
But I always felt the strain was near the base of my skull, not down at the shoulder level (C5/6)
I too, have a disc bulge on C5/6 according to the MRI I got after my crash. Though it's hard to tell if that's from being ON the bike, or being tossed off my mtn bike at regular interval.
