Another simple option...

...is to keep your right foot on the gas pedal and tap the brake with your left, just hard enough to flash the lights. That way, you don't slow significantly, if at all, but you get your point across.

Maybe I'm just belligerent, but I refuse to reward bad behavior by accommodating tailgaters.

Many years ago, when I lived in NY's capitol region, I had to make trips to the DC area on a fairly regular basis. The car I owned then was a Honda Civic Wagon, and they had a reputation, apparently, for being good cars to draft--cause that's what everyone did.

After the second or third of these trips, sick of being tailgated that closely, I installed a momentary toggle switch across the brake light switch. I could use it to flip my brake lights without even taking my foot off the gas. Heck, I could use it to send morse code if it came down to it.

It seemed to help, and made those drives feel a little safer.
